AN INDIAN SILVER INLAID COPPER CHARGER, the central circular inset silver panel decorated in high relief, depicting Krishna, the Divine Herdsman, as a young man, standing in typical relaxed pose, one leg bent in front of the other in tribhanga dance posture, playing a flute and subduing Hastin, the raging bull. Krishna attended by his two most senior Gopis, Radha, his favourite Gopi consort in the left foreground offering a peacock in her outstretched arms to Krishna, Lalita, Radha's constant companion, in right foreground. Animals, consorts and Krishna all in harmony beneath a Bodhi tree, thirteen inset silver, high relief panels around, depicting deities standing on peacock platforms, the border decorated with concentric conforming bands of silver geometric and stylised floral decoration, 18.25 inches (45.25cm) diameter approx. Mid to late 19th century.
Attractively patinated, vert minor rubbing to highpoints, otherwise virtually as made.
