Note: this is a rare unnamed specimen, not a name erased medal.
In addition to men of Boer Commandos of the Orange Free State and Transvaal, this medal was awarded to foreign volunteers who fought alongside Boer Commandos, including Irish volunteers who saw service in South Africa in Major John MacBride's Irish Brigade.
