Heavy contact marks to surfaces and rim from the Star, partially obscuring naming details (as indicated), otherwise Fine, and with a length of original ribbon.
Medal accompanied by biographical details, 9 pages of copied service papers, marriage certificate, extract 1901 Wales census and copied medal roll confirming no clasp medal.
John Noyes was born in the parish of Tilshead, Devizes, Wiltshire, in 1859, the son of Joseph and Mary Noyes. He enlisted at Cardiff on 16/6/1879. At the time of enlistment he was 20 years of age and gave his trade as that of groom, service papers record Noyes as having transferred to the Army Reserve on 1/2/1885 and was discharged from the army on 15/6/1891. Medal Roll confirms service in Egypt during the campaign of 1882 with the 1st Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers and entitlement to a medal with no clasp.
Private Noyes was also entitled to the Khedive's Star 1882.
John Noyes is recorded in the 1901 Wales census as a 42 year old self-employed fruiter and greengrocer resident in Pontypridd, Glamorganshire, Wales, with his wife, 4 sons, a daughter and a servant. He died in Pontypridd, Glamorganshire, in 1902.
