NAVAL GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Anholt 2 March 1811 (naming neatly erased). A few scattered minor edge nicks, otherwise with an attractive light tone, Good Very Fine to Almost Extremely Fine and a useful space filler with a genuine Anholt clasp.
Anholt clasp rare, only 38 awarded for the defence of the island of Anholt by 381 Royal Marines and Royal Artillerymen under the command of Captain Robert Torrens, Royal Marines, against an invading Danish flotilla of 12 gunboats and transports manned by 1,000 Danish seamen and transporting 1,000 Danish troops. During the defence, the island of Anholt had the distinction of being commissioned as one of HM Ships.
