Scattered surface contact marks and rim nicks, partially obscuring naming details, as indicated (first digit of service number and letter "A" of "R.A." contact marked), otherwise Almost Very Fine.
Medal accompanied by 8 pages copied service papers, embarkation list and copied extract medal rolls (2, Egypt Medal and Khedives Star) confirming Morgan entitled medal and clasp and also entitled Khedives Star.
John Morgan was born in Blandford, Dorset. He enlisted into the Royal Artillery at Fort Rowner, Gosport, on 25/4/1882 and was posted for service with the rank of Gunner to the 2nd Brigade, Royal Artillery, on 1/7/1882. At the time of enlistment Morgan was 20 years and 4 months old and gave his trade as butcher. Morgan was promoted Bombardier, 16/4/1887, transferred to the 4th Brigade Royal Artillery with the rank of Bombardier, 16/11/1887, was promoted Corporal, 24/2/1889, Sergeant, 30/4/1890, but was reduced to Corporal, 15/4/1893, promoted again to Sergeant, 11/6/1900, reduced again to Corporal 14/12/1900, and was discharged on 14/4/1903 after having seen 21 years service with the colours. In addition to service at home, Morgan saw service in Egypt, 8/8/1882 to 19/3/1883, India, 7/9/1882 to 24/4/1894 and again in India 28/2/1896 to 11/6/1900 (embarkation list confirms Morgan sailed for India aboard the Euphrates on 7/9/1883)
