There were two Constables J. Barry serving in the D.M.P. in 1900 at the time of the Royal Visit.
1) Constable 9736 James Barry, born Kilurey Causeway, Co. Kerry, who enlisted into the Dublin Metropolitan Police in 1891. At the time of enlistment he was 23 years of age, a Roman Catholic, stood some 6 feet 1.25 inches tall and gave his trade as that of farmer. He was recommended by M. Boyle, J.P., and saw service with "B" Division from 30/9/1891, and "A" Division from 6/12/1907. James Barry was promoted Police Sergeant 6/12/1907 and discharged to a pension on 14/2/1926.
2) 10068 Constable John Barry, born Killeavy, Newry, Co. Armagh, who enlisted into the Dublin Metropolitan Police in 1897. At the time of enlistment he was 23 years of age, a Roman Catholic, stood some 5 feet 11.75 inches tall, and gave his trade as that of labourer. He was recommended by the Reverend Father McIlvogue, and saw service with "F" Division from 6/8/1897, "A" Division from 11/5/1900, "D" Division from 1/3/1902 and "A" Division from 28/2/1903. John Barry was promoted Sergeant, 21/3/1914, Station Sergeant, 29/8/1917, and pensioned on 6/7/1923.
